SWING BED
What Are Swing Bed Services?
A Swing Bed program enables a hospital bed to “swing” between acute care and skilled nursing care, depending on the patient’s needs. After a qualifying hospital stay, patients who no longer require acute care, but still need daily skilled services, may transition to swing bed care.
Swing bed care focuses on recovery, rehabilitation, and restoring independence so patients can safely return home or transition to the next level of care.
Who May Benefit From Swing Bed Care?
Swing Bed Services may be appropriate for patients who:
- Are recovering from surgery, illness, or injury
- Need skilled nursing care or rehabilitation services
- Are not yet strong enough to safely return home
- Would benefit from physical, occupational, or speech therapy
- Prefer to receive care close to home rather than in a nursing facility
Your healthcare provider and care team will help determine if swing bed care is the right option.
